Athlete Profile - Interview with Dylan Bibic

Dylan Bibic probably needs no introduction at this point. The Ontario native (born 3 August 2003) has already made his mark in the Canadian track cycling history since his debut on the boards and has rapidly grown into a world-class athlete.

He started racing at a young age in road, cyclocross and then eventually track cycling

How it started

On October 13th of 2022, he won the scratch race at the 2022 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, becoming the first Canadian to win gold and the World Champions jersey in this event.

He had previously won the men's points race at the UCI Junior Track World Championships and pretty much all Canadian Track championships events you can think of as a Junior.

How it's going...

We thought we’d ask a few questions to Dylan about his track cycling career.

Trackloft:  How did you get into track cycling?
Dylan: They built the Milton velodrome 20 minutes from my house. I was already a road cyclist, but I took advantage of the track nearby and went on from there.

Trackloft: Besides cycling, what is your favourite sport? Do you play it?
Dylan: The only other sport I play once in a while is hockey when the pond by my house freezes.

Trackloft: Of all the velodromes you have visited and raced on, which one is the most memorable or unique?
Dylan: Definitely Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, in France, where the 2022 worlds were held and also the Champions League.

I have very good memories of winning, and I know the area around it pretty well.

Trackloft: What is currently your favourite piece of gear?
Dylan: My favourite piece of gear right now are my Shimano track shoes: they are stiff and comfortable. There’s not much more you can ask for.

Trackloft: What advice would you give to yourself if you could go back 10 years in time?
Dylan:Train harder!

Trackloft: Final but very important question: Can you pop a wheelie?
DylanYes! Very well. I once rode on one wheel for 3 kilometers.

Thanks Dylan! We wish you all the best for the upcoming season!
